About & methods

OrisCura is a chairside reference that connects systemic health and the mouth. Content is curated from the dental and medical literature. It is not AI-generated.

Who makes OrisCura

OrisCura is created and curated by Sophie Knott, RDH, a registered dental hygienist, to put the oral–systemic connection at the chairside in seconds.

Clinical review status

Every entry is sourced from the cited literature. An independent clinical review of the full library is in progress. Until it is complete, treat entries as a starting point and verify against the cited sources and current guidelines. Entries that have been reviewed show a “Last clinically reviewed” date at the bottom of their page.

How AI is used

The clinical content on OrisCura (conditions, medications, oral effects, ratings, and citations) is manually curated from the dental and medical literature. It is not generated, selected, or summarized by AI. AI assistance (Claude Code) was used to help build the application itself: its code, design, and features. That distinction matters: the tool you're using was AI-assisted, but the clinical judgments in it were not.

Two separate ratings

We deliberately keep two ratings apart because they answer different questions. A link can be strong but under-studied, or well-studied but weak.

Likelihood / strengthHigh

How strong or prevalent the association is: how likely a condition affects the mouth, or how impactful a perio-systemic link is.

Evidence confidenceModerate

How robust the peer-reviewed evidence is, graded by an evidence hierarchy.

How evidence confidence is graded

  • High: supported by systematic reviews, meta-analyses, or consistent RCT / large cohort evidence.
  • Moderate: supported by cohort or case-control studies with generally consistent findings.
  • Low: based on case reports, mechanistic plausibility, expert opinion, or conflicting data.

We intentionally use a Low/Moderate/High scale rather than precise percentages, which the literature rarely supports honestly.
