Medication

Lansoprazole

Proton pump inhibitor (PPI)

Brand names: Prevacid

Oral health effects

  • Dry mouth / dysgeusia; possible mucosal effects

PPIs are generally well tolerated orally; dry mouth and taste changes are reported, and long-term acid suppression may slightly raise enteric infection risk.

Clinical management: Symptomatic care; remember PPIs treat the GERD that itself causes dental erosion.
