Rasagiline
Antiparkinsonian (MAO-B inhibitor)
Brand names: Azilect
Oral health effects
Dry mouth / interaction cautions
Xerostomia reported; MAO-B selectivity reduces but does not eliminate interaction concerns (sympathomimetics, meperidine).
Clinical management: Review interactions; limit excess epinephrine if symptomatic; manage dry mouth.
Dizziness on standing (orthostatic hypotension)
Orthostatic hypotension is a label warning (13% vs 9% on placebo in one trial).
Clinical management: Raise the chair slowly at the end of the appointment and have the patient sit upright for a minute or two before standing; steady them as they get up. Ask about dizziness on standing, especially after dose changes or in older patients.
