Oral health effects

  • Thrombocytopenia / increased bleeding

    Valproate can lower platelet count and impair platelet function, increasing bleeding during invasive procedures.

    Clinical management: Consider a platelet count before surgery; use local hemostatic measures; consult physician.

  • Gingival overgrowth (uncommon) / dysgeusia

    Occasional gingival enlargement and altered taste reported.

    Clinical management: Plaque control; symptomatic care.
